Spiritual Formation

The call to follow Jesus was never intended to be an intellectual assent to a set of doctrinal truths, but a way of living that impacts every area of our lives. Jesus calls us to apprentice after Him. When we talk about being an apprentice of Jesus, we’re talking about three primary actions: Being with Jesus, Becoming Like Jesus, and Doing What Jesus Did. (Or what He would do if He were living life in my situation and context.) Of course, becoming like Him, or being transformed in the language of the Scriptures, means that we need to change. At York Alliance Church, we are seeking to intentionally engage the change process through three primary components, all infused with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Teachings

When Jesus taught, He often made statements about reality. He didn’t try to convince people as much as He simply explained what was true about the world. Our teaching at YAC is grounded in the truth of the Scriptures and seeks to follow Jesus’ model of simply telling one another what is true about our lives and our world.

Community

The people we spend our lives with have a significant impact on who we become. At York Alliance we are learning to be honest and open with one another as we journey with Jesus, giving ourselves space to love and to be loved by others. Our goal is vibrant and authentic intergenerational community.

Practices

Our habits and rhythms are one of the driving factors that develop our loves. The practices of Jesus seek to develop our spiritual muscles so that, by engaging the lifestyle of Jesus, we might live the life of Jesus as well. Through practices we learn to love what Jesus loved.
